Description:
· Supervises and directs the Manufacturing Engineering & PD activities for new product introduction. Reviews and evaluates each new product, its schedule and its impact on the manufacturing facility. Reviews and reports progress for new product and establish direction for its timely and profitable introduction.
· Directs a Cost Improvement Program; assigns and authorizes projects, reviews project schedules and is responsible for meeting divisional goals.
· Ensures adequate Engineering staff to the Manufacturing personnel in order to support manufacturing processes leading to better quality, safety, capacity and schedule completions.
· Ensures compliance with all established corporate policies and practices; deals with divisional discipline problems; makes periodic reviews employees performance as required; and maintains employee and production records as necessary to ensure effective controls.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the Engineering and Project management of existing and new products.
· Responsible for managing project timelines, cost targets and sourcing alignment from Product Concept and Design Engineering all the way through Engineering Design Validation.
· Responsible for ongoing consultation with Product Management, Quality Assurance (QA) and manufacturing lifecycle engineering through Pilot.
· Contributes to a good understanding of engineering principles and fundamentals to the team's problem-solving approach.
· Able to understand the impact that new product engineering has in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
· Participates in or leads a product development project team involving evaluations, recommendations, design, engineering review, testing reconciliation, Lean objectives and consultation with the responsible manufacturing team on production issues with product designs.
· Drives projects form concept SOL through established product development process.
· Provides "analytical voice" to product development and engineering problem solving process, particularly with respect to understand loading cases, selection of materials and creation of a decision-making process for resolving technical questions.
· Creates Engineering documentation to meet design and manufacturing objectives, as well as necessary timelines.
· Oversees development of all prototypes.
· Works collaboratively with Product Management, Manufacturing Lifecycle Engineering, Sourcing, QA, Customer Service, Finance, Sales, Manufacturing and Technical Support teams to meet cost goals and launch cycle.
· Works with Product Management and Manufacturing/Lifestyle engineering to meet Production; Pilot and Post-Pilot needs.
· Consults with Products Management and Manufacturing/Lifecycles engineering; through activities such as ongoing part reviews; stage-gate reviews; etc. to help ensure that design intent, product function intent, design (KDF) and quality (FMEA) are met.
· Consults with Product Launch Manager, Product manager and Manufacturing/Lifecycle engineer to support successful product launches.
· Consults with Product Manager, Product Quality and Manufacturing/Lifecycle Engineering to troubleshoot product performance problems and manufacturing problems.
· Work with suppliers and QA during the concept, design and design engineering phases to optimize their abilities/services and ensure that the necessary expectations as to cost, quality and performance are communicated.
· Reviews and approves parts with QA for compliance to print as part of FA approval process. Coordination with Manager of PR Engineering for prototype build and product development testing needs.
· Interact daily with technical staff in PD projects.
· Establishes weekly expectations for project deliverables with technical teams.
Requirements:
· Experience in Lean Tools, Culture and Philosophy
· Analytical and problem solving skills essential. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering technology that is applicable to a manufacturing environment
· Must have good managerial skills and a good understanding of manufacturing processes and production concepts
· Requires ability to understand complex concepts and the ability to communicate these ideas to both technical and non-technical people
· High degree of interpersonal and communication skills (Written & Verbal) necessary to work with management and factory employee's
· Proficient with ProEngineer is a plus
· Experience with AutoCAD release 2000 or better a plus
· Proficiency in Excel, Project and Word strongly preferred.
· Experience in planning and organization; problem solving and analysis.
· Strong organizational skills .
· Excellent working knowledge of materials and processes
· Ability to balance the workload in a climate of constant change and competing projects
· Strong ability to communicate innovative product solutions.
· Strong computer drafting skills is a plus
· Desire to keep current with changing technologies
· BA or BS in Mechanical Industrial Engineering
· Black belt / Six Sigma knowledge
· At least 10 years of experience in the manufacturing industry with solid growing career path
· Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
· Bicultural (Mexico/US) is required
