THE POSITION
Role summary
Own a defined set of commodities and suppliers for production and project builds. Execute day-to-day buying, assure on-time delivery, and drive year-over-year cost improvement while maintaining data accuracy in the ERP and supplier compliance to terms.
Key responsibilities
- Place and manage purchase orders for direct and indirect materials; confirm acknowledgments, ship dates, and delivery.
- Maintain accurate item, vendor, and pricing data in ERP; resolve PO, receipt, and invoice mismatches with AP.
- Execute sourcing events for spot buys and competitive quotes; analyze total landed cost and award per policy.
- Track supplier performance for OTIF, quality, and responsiveness; run weekly supplier huddles and corrective actions.
- Manage inventory targets for assigned parts; reduce excess and slow-moving stock; propose MOQ and lead time changes.
- Partner with Planning, Engineering, and Quality on ECOs, alternates, and risk buys; support NPI transitions.
- Monitor PPV, lead time, and expedite fees; escalate risks early with clear recovery plans.
- Prepare reports for KPIs and quarterly supplier reviews; maintain clean audit trails and contract files.
- Support customs and logistics documentation accuracy for cross-border shipments.
THE CANDIDATE
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s in supply chain, business, engineering, or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
- 10-15 years of purchasing in maquila or manufacturing; electronics or electro-mechanical a plus.
- Proficiency with an ERP such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle; strong Excel.
- Working knowledge of Incoterms, quotes, and basic contracts; comfort with BOMs and part specs.
- Bilingual Spanish and English, written and spoken.
- Strong follow-through; able to manage a large PO queue and multiple deadlines.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with cross-border logistics and Mexican import programs.
- Supplier development or basic cost analysis exposure.
- Certification such as CPSM or APICS is a plus.
