THE COMPANY

Our client is a global leader in furniture manufacturing headquartered in the USA who is undergoing  aggressive growth in North America.  With three plants in Mexico, they seek a Materials & Logistics Manager with a strong background in procurement and sourcing to lead all Mexico materials, procurement, and logistics operations. The Materials & Logistics Manager will be based in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.

THE JOB

Primary Function:
 

The Materials & Logistics Manager will manage inventory levels to budget and desired service levels in accordance with sales planning and forecasts. Oversee and manage all inbound materials for the three Mexico locations in Juarez.  Responsible for sourcing raw materials, equipment, goods and services and managing vendors. Evaluates and recommend vendors and determine the most cost-effective inventory and reorder levels, negotiating price, delivery, and credit terms. Supervises a purchasing supervisor, 4 buyers, raw materials receiving & inventory control specialist, and one IT/Analyst.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring inventory receiving, production and shipping transactions are recorded accurately and timely, in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Work cross functionally to develop and implement enhance inventory control procedures to ensure physical and perpetual inventory records are regularly audited and reconciled.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for inventory cycle counting and physical counts.
  • Work cross functionally to develop KPIs and metrics to manage inventory levels.
  • Work cross functionally to implement standard operating procedures to improve raw material yields and identify and remediate issues with standard BOMs.
  • Manage cover, component and raw materials procurement for the corporation, including inventory, cost management, supplier development, supplier negotiations, purchasing and supplier performance management.
  • Manage global cut & sew program for fabric and leather, including managing requests for quote and final costing; analyzing shipping patterns; reviewing fit samples; projecting usage; and ordering and maintaining production quantities.
  • Accountable for material requirements planning and sourcing to achieve lowest total delivered cost procurement.  Develop and implement procurement plans to achieve desired performance targets that balance delivery, fill rates, transportation costs, inventory investment and turnover to optimize service levels for end customers.
  • Request supplier quotes and negotiate to secure best terms (e.g., MOQs, payment terms, quality requirements, etc.) for cover, components and raw materials.
  • Responsible for evaluation, analysis and reporting to support S&OP processes, add/drop analysis and communication, supplier performance management and order data management.
  • Direct, manage and maintain overall customs compliance procedures to ensure that the company operates in conformity with rules and regulations. (Not directly responsible for customs).
  • Work with cross functional teams (Logistics, Operations, Engineering) to ensure orders ship “on time” and to specification through the programs established for each supplier. 
  • Represent the department on the cover selection committee and manages the new part/cover setup process.
  • To lead the team toward the achievement of company goals.
  • Communicate departmental issues and goals and facilitate associate growth and development through regular team meetings, consistent individual associate meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.
  • Establish goals and provide direction to the team.

THE CANDIDATE

Education, Skills, & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, marketing or business administration or similar.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in progressively responsible materials, logistics, procurement, sourcing or supply chain role.
  • Strong background in procurement, purchasing and sourcing of materials.
  • Strong preference for fabric purchasing and international sourcing experience.
  • Familiar with forecasts and working knowledge of S&OP MPS and production planning.
  • Ability to manage projects and establish clear goals and accountabilities to ensure successful delivery (on time, within budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria).
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to communicate in written and verbal form, effectively and efficiently, in both Spanish and English (90% +).
  • Able to deliver high level presentations in English.
  • Microsoft Windows and Advance Excel. AS-400 hands-on user is highly desirable. SAP a plus.
  • Results oriented, proactive, independent.
  • Able to travel up to 50%.
