THE COMPANY

Our client is a major diversified global manufacturer and solutions provider with annual revenue of nearly $8 billion. Solutions and services are offered across five segments. Our client currently seeks a Director of OPEX to lead, promote and facilitate the
implementation of the Operational Excellence Model throughout our multiple manufacturing
locations. This includes Special Projects and its associated processes that will lead to Operations 
and Supply Chain Process Improvements and Optimization.  

THE POSITION

The Director of Operational Excellence will be measured by the successful deployment of Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing principles and use of Advanced Statistical tools throughout the organization to turnaround and/or enhance Operational and Financial Performance at all facilities.

As part of the incumbent’s responsibilities, this position requires a minimum of 50% travel domestically and occasionally overseas travel.

This position will also be responsible for driving Transformational Processes through the diligent use of Operational Excellence Tools and Methodologies.

Although this person reports to the VP of Operations, the span of responsibility includes all of the different business units. While supply chain is an integral part of operational excellence and productivity improvements, the global supply chain manager will report directly to this role.

All supply chain professionals and CI professionals will dotted line report through either the Global Supply Chain Manager or directly to the Director of Operational Excellence.

  • Exceptional Training, Assessment and Coaching and Influencing skills to successfully deploy Operational Excellence Model and implement from start to finish effective Improvement Action Plans to support facilities as they embark on their Lean Journeys.
  • Ability to engage with many plants to direct, train and project manage all aspects of Operational Excellence.
  • Advanced Problem Solving and Negotiation skills.
  • Ability to do effective Problem Solving – able to define "Problem Statement", engage, motivate and improve Operations across Manufacturing, Supply Chain and supporting functions.
  • Experience in Value Stream/Process Mapping – Current, Future and Ideal states.
  • Experience in leading and facilitating improvement initiatives in both transactional and non-transactional environments with emphasis in problem solving.
  • Continuous Improvement Leadership Experience.
  • Subject Matter Expert in many of the Operational Excellence Standards.
  • Ability to lead domestic and global Cross-Functional Teams.
  • Data driven, must be able to understand and explain business metrics and performance variance.
  • Experience in Supply Chain Optimization: Fabrication, Machining, Electronics and Plastic Injection Molding.
  • Data driven, must be able to understand and explain business metrics and performance variance.
  • Manufacturing – Experienced in different Manufacturing Strategies including Make to Stock, Configured to Order and Engineering to Order.
  • Competent in Enterprise Resource Planning, Material Requirements Planning and Manufacturing Execution Systems.
  • Superior organization, time-management and prioritization. Demonstrated Project Management skills and ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.

THE CANDIDATE

  • Will have 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience including Plant Management and/or Operational Excellence roles in global organizations and multi-site environments.
  • Will bring significant experience leading transformational processes including ergonomically designed manufacturing areas including the use of automation and/or advanced tools and fixtures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience with a strong technical affinity.
  • Masters / MBA desired.
  • Lean Manufacturing Certification.
  • Green Belt or Black Belt Certification desired.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in driving change management across multi-site operation.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding business reports, especially ERP and Financial Reports.
