Our client is a renowned global leader specializing in electrical connectors and cable assemblies to find an Engineering Manager to join their operations in Mexicali, B.C., Mexico. This business unit is the market leader in power electrical connectors and cable assemblies for the Telecom/Datacom market, serving applications such as storage, servers, and networking systems.
THE POSITION
The Engineering Manager leads a team of R&D engineers responsible for production line transfers, design-for-manufacturability execution, and sustaining engineering activities within a high-volume production environment. The role bridges Global Product R&D and Operations, ensuring that product designs are successfully translated into robust, scalable manufacturing solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Mexicali Engineering team
- Own execution of production line transfers, including new programs, site transfers, and dual sourcing
- Define and approve the assembly process architecture during line transfer, including assembly sequence, station breakdown, and technical requirements
- Drive design alterations and part derivatives to improve manufacturability, yield, and robustness
- Serve as the primary technical interface between Global Product Engineering, Operations, and Quality
- Approve engineering solutions related to fixtures, detection and prevention methods, rework, and validation
- Provide technical leadership for root cause analysis and corrective actions on complex production issues
- Ensure effective testing and verification strategies are implemented during transfers and sustaining activities
- Support sample builds, First Article approvals, and transfer validation readiness
- Develop team capability in DFM/DFA, process understanding, and industrialization best practices
- Manage priorities, resource allocation, and technical risk across multiple programs
- Scope & Authority:
- Technical decision-making authority for manufacturing-related design changes within the approved design envelope
- Ownership of R&D execution deliverables for line transfer and industrialization
- Influence (but not ownership) over Operations PFMEA and manufacturing process documentation

- Global Product R&D and NPI teams
- Operations and Manufacturing Engineering
- Quality and Reliability Engineering
- Supply Chain, tooling, and test equipment suppliers
- Customers (as needed for technical discussions)
Success Metrics:
- On-time and successful production line transfers
- Stable ramp-up yields and reduced post-transfer issues
- Effectiveness of design alterations and derivatives
- Reduction in rework and engineering-driven escapes
- Testing and verification cycle time
THE CANDIDATE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in connector, cable assembly, or power interconnect engineering
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in a production environment
- Strong background in power connectors, crimping systems, and cable assemblies
- Demonstrated experience with production transfers and industrialization
