THE POSITION

The Materials Manager will be based in Mexicali, B.C. Mexico and will lead all materials and supply chain functions for the operation, including production planning, purchasing, inventory control, warehousing (raw materials and finished goods), receiving, and customer shipments. This executive will play a critical leadership role in ensuring operational continuity, optimizing planning, purchasing, inventory and logistics performance, and supporting customer satisfaction through on-time delivery and supply chain excellence. Some key challenges will be to develop and implement the S&OP, develop more robust processes and systems, improve inventory accuracy, and develop a high performing team.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Materials Manager will lead a multifunctional team across planning, purchasing, inventory control, warehousing, and logistics while driving continuous improvement initiatives aligned with companies operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all Materials Department operations, including Production Planning, Demand Planning, Purchasing, Raw Material Warehouse, Finished Goods Warehouse, Inventory Control, and MRO Warehouse operations.
  • Ensure optimal inventory levels to support customer requirements while minimizing freight, storage, and excess inventory costs.
  • Oversee production scheduling and material availability to support manufacturing efficiency and on-time delivery.
  • Direct purchasing (buyer/planning) activities to ensure suppliers meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics operations, ensuring efficient material flow and customer shipments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and best-in-class supply chain practices.
  • Monitor supplier performance and support corrective action initiatives when required.
  • Develop and implement (set-up) S&OP and participate in S&OP reviews, forecasting activities, and strategic operational planning.
  • Develop and mentor departmental leadership and ensure alignment with company policies, systems, and ethical standards.
  • Support annual budgeting, operational metrics, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and corporate operational standards.

THE CANDIDATE

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • APICS certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Materials Manager or similar leadership roles within large manufacturing environments (500+ employees preferred).
  • Strong experience with production planning, demand planning, and developing and implementing S&OP.
  • Experience with Pull Systems/Kanban methodologies.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, and 5S initiatives.
  • Experience working under ISO-9000 standards.
  • Strong experience with ERP/MRP systems; Oracle preferred.
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). eTime and HCM knowledge preferred.
  • Advanced English fluency (95%) and fluent Spanish required.
