THE COMPANY

Our client is a growing global leader in the manufacturing, sale and distribution of home consumer products who is experiencing double digit growth. As a result of growth, they are currently seeking a Plant Manager to lead its plant in Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico across from McAllen, Texas. This position is open to Mexican nationals on Mexican payroll but also open to U.S. nationals on U.S. payroll.

THE POSITION

Job Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall performance for one operation plant site in Reynosa. He/she has responsibility for setting the facility’s strategic direction, creating ATO fabrication and component plans, and developing/overseeing tactical support plans.

  1. Major Areas of Responsibility/Tasks/Duties:
  • Responsible for the Final Results Obtained by the Organization, Establishes the Objectives and Strategies that will determine the company’s direction.
  • Formulates, Negotiates and Manages the Organization’s Objectives and Budgets, as well as the Strategies and Action Plans to achieve those Objectives. Validates and Authorizes Standard Operating Procedures for the company.
  • Ensures the Optimal Operation of the Organization’s functional areas such as: production, quality, finance, materials, engineering, maintenance, human resources, etc.
  • With a Customer Focused Orientation, plans and directs the Company’s Operation to maintain volume and competitive position within the Market.
  • Responsible for selecting, training, motivating and developing their staff as well as acting as a facilitator. Also responsible for promoting and maintaining interdepartmental harmony.
  • Maintain the resources (people, equipment, and materials) to obtain the production volume as planned at the requested delivery time.
  • Comply with required production levels through appropriate material consumption.
  • Comply with objectives and goals as established with approved budget.

  • Directly and indirectly manage approximately 1,200 associates in all operations. Associates are engaged in custom home products and component manufacturing. They use a teaming approach while striving for continuous improvement to provide the Best Experience to our customers and end consumers.
  • Create capacity plans and strategies that will best serve our order fulfillment expectations. Lead the site teams in executing those plans and strategies. Clearly define objectives, strategies, schedules and assignments for all team members.
  • Report regularly to the Director of Operations. Assure clears lines of communication with others in the division to remove obstacles to success and facilitate changes that will assure success.

  • Prioritize project work for the Plant Teams.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement manufacturing productivity, quality of finished products and customer service pertaining to order turnaround time, cycle time and timely order status information to Division Customer Service.

Quality – Integrates quality at the source thinking and activities in daily, individual, team and project work.

  • Utilizes quality/process tools and methodology in daily individual work.
  • Utilizes quality/process tools and methodology on teams.
  • Defines and documents individual processes within sphere of control.
  • Ensures that others are trained as back-ups on (processes) within the area/department.
  • Improves processes within sphere of control.
  • Identifies waste and rework and enacts plan to improve/solve.
  • Checks satisfaction of internal customers through use of quality tools and Customer/Supplier metrics.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • The Plant Manager will have primary responsibility for ensuring continuous improvement in the operation, striving for 5% cost improvement annually.
  • The Plant Manager will oversee operations which produce over 4.2 million units of custom-made products annually in 9 different categories. 
  • The Manager will have authority over an expense budget.
  • Oversee a facility of 115,000 square feet with an inventory value.
  • Oversee fabrication of finished product having a shipping value.
  • Operating Budget control including material cost.
  • Provide Weekly performance reports to Sr VP Manufacturing, programs and network manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with division staff the plans and implementation of new product program. Including facility design and layout.
  • Hiring/Training and securing of all appropriate documentation/approvals for cross-border movements.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidate Requirements, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years leadership experience as a plant manager or similar in a 700+ person manufacturing facility in production, production control or planning, ideally in a labor-intensive manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a teamwork environment with successful track record of developing staff into leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated work experience and success using Lean and Quality tools.
  • Experience leading successful operational and cultural transformations is desired.
  • Experience establishing controls and standards.
  • Possesses P&L knowledge and business acumen.
  • Must have strong manufacturing floor management and be very hands-on.
  • Ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, consensus, decision making skills, excellent leadership skills, organizational skills, the ability to understand and to be understood at many levels of the company, must have the skill to teach others about the company management philosophy issues and related subjects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at levels above and below position.
  • Thorough understanding of staffing issues, union strike issues, and plant safety issues, government inspection requirements, and their impact on plant operations.
  • Bilingual English (90%+) and Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, prefer engineering. Master’s Degree desired.
