Our client was founded almost 100 years ago and is currently the global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of residential furniture. They have over 11,500 employees and a manufacturing footprint that span all throughout  North America with additional global sales. As a result of growth, they are requiring an experienced Materials Manager for their new state-of-the-art plant in San Luis Rio Colorado (55 minutes east of Mexicali, BC) just across the Yuma, Arizona border. The position reports to the Plant Manager and dotted line to the Regional Materials Manager.



Directs and coordinate activities relating to the planning, procurement (Buyer/Planning), materials controlling and materials distribution, meeting the company´s objectives and internal customers’ needs, Works closely with the Production Manager and general staff to support manufacturing requirements and deliver high quality products in a timely manner, Manages and mentors the subordinate’s staff in order to maintain, motivate teamwork and perform continue improvement.


  • Leads the material team and serves as the management representative for materials department in related matters
  • Responsible for managing inventory and purchasing procedures of raw materials and other supplies within a company
  • Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries and materials purchasing to meet customer requirements
  • Ensures that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions.
  • Make sure that the operations always have an adequate flow of the materials they need
  • Internal material handling, inventory control, receiving, materials storage and shipping orders execution
  • Performs write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory
  • Define, establish, and ensure compliance of KPI´s defined in materials department and meet overall corporate goals
  • Leads negotiations with vendors and maintain constant and good relationships with suppliers
  • Develop strategic projects on opportunities for cost reduction by design and quality enhancements. And sustain best practices
  • Interact and communicate with exceptional effectiveness with all levels of employees, suppliers, contractors, and management
  • Coordinate and evaluate direct reports and train in specific Materials practices


This position provides constant training, ensure inventory effectiveness, develops sourcing strategy with Commodity Management, Analyzes and mitigates risk in the supply chain, Works directly with multi-function teams and suppliers to address issues that may impact schedule and supply.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct reports               

Production Control Manager, Buyer/Planner, Shipping and Receiving Supervisors, PFEP Supervisor, Cycle Count Leads and Materials Supervisors.


MINIMUM CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related field required with 6-8 years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in materials / supply chain leading a team. (i.e., materials manager, materials control manager, supply chain manager, PC&L Manager or similar in a leadership position.
  • Solid Knowledge inventory management systems and planning (buyer / planning and production planning).
  • Familiarity with supply chain.
  • Knowledge of forecasting and budgeting
  • Proficient in ERP systems and ERP management (For example JD Edwards, ORACLE, SAP, BAAN, or other ERP’s)
  • Ability to lead working teams and excellent organizational leadership skills
  • Customer service-oriented
  • Excellent organizational, planning and execution skills. Must be very results oriented and possess strong initiative.
  • Excellent people skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to solve problems swiftly.
  • Practices accountability and acts with integrity.
  • Thrives in a challenging environment where resiliency, influencing skills and the ability to gets things done are important to the success of the role.


· Bilingual English/Spanish mandatory

  • Master’s degree desirable
