General Accountant

Job Summary:
Privately held vertically integrated manufacturer of custom-made polyethylene flexible packaging (primarily for the fast-paced fresh produce market segment in the Western USA), currently seeks a hands-on Accountant to perform general Mexico accounting duties including tax, payroll, and monthly reporting. The position reports to the Tijuana Plant Manager and dotted line to the Corporate Controller based in the USA.


 Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • All day-to-day general accounting operations for the manufacturing entity.
  • Month-end close process.
  • Maintains records on bookkeeping, disbursements, expenses, and taxes. Performs journal entries to Mexico General Ledger.
  • Account reconciliations.
  • Intercompany accounting, as needed.
  • Mexico tax accounting and compliance including IMSS, Infonavit, Comercio Exterior (Customs) etc.
  • Prepares reports to government agencies, prepares employees severance pay and conducts. fund transfers.
  • Local accounts payable.
  • Inventory accounting and reporting.
  • Weekly payroll.
  • Fixed asset control.
  • Forecasting and budgeting support and analysis versus actual.
  • May provide reports tracking KPI’s.
  • Standard cost accounting support and implementation, as needed.
  • Support for operations, special projects, and others.
  • Support on all legal aspects for plant operation on Federal, State and Municipal requirements (i.e., SAT, COFEPRIS, etc.).


Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 4 years’ experience in general accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have experience with general ledger, journal entries, Account reconciliations, Accounts payable, Payroll, Bank reconciliations.
  • Financial reporting and monthly close.
  • Mexico Tax experience and compliance including IMSS and Infonavit.
  • Familiarized with VAT procedures and returns.
  • Experienced with inventory control and reporting.
  • Basic experience Standard cost accounting is highly desired.
  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Must be familiar working with accounting systems especially, Contpaq and Nomipaq.
  • High energy self-starter who thrives in fast paced manufacturing environment and has a high capacity for analysis and attention to detail.
  • Must have strong execution and multi-tasking skills.
  • Must have knowledge on Comercio Exterior import/export processes.
  • Capable to act as leader on compliance on legal aspects (Federal, State and Municipal).
  • Must have experience on KPI reporting.
  • Proficient in English and native Spanish speaker.
