Our client seeks a Supply Chain Manager to support their Tijuana, Mexico operation, with a total headcount of 150 employees. The responsibilities include managing 4 direct reports; Buyer, Planner, Scheduler and Logistics Coordinator. We’re looking for someone to lead and direct in a safe work environment, according to schedule, and within the required quality standards and cost objectives.

THE JOB

Position Specifications:

As a manager in Tijuana, the Supply Chain Manager is responsible for creating and fostering an environment that allows for continuous improvement in Safety, Morale, Quality, Delivery and Cost.  The Supply Chain Manager will work very closely with operations and customer service to ensure on time delivery of all materials needed to make and deliver our finished goods to the end customer. They will ensure lead times are developed and followed that allow for on time delivery. They will be responsible for all buyers, shipping and receiving, schedulers and the inventory control team. With the inventory control team, the manager is responsible for all cycle count activity and physical inventory. They will work very closely with the Strategic Purchasing Director, giving feedback on supplier performance (OTD and Quality) while helping to establish positive relationships with suppliers and helping to develop them. Instruct and train Production Planner to achieve optimized scheduling, creating value through cost and capital efficiency, while keeping a high service level to customers with a minimum throughput time. Manage team of direct reports to schedule daily replenishment of supply. Balance supply according to demand by generating supply forecast based on demand plan to optimize material delivery from supplier to point of use. Continuously improve material supply process to ensure process excellence, including defining necessary standards while utilizing system support.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and enhance systems and procedures in materials planning that continually improve overall cost effectiveness. Maximize the utilization of the information system in all areas of materials management to enhance the effectiveness of all physical and human resources.
  • Team development.  Training and preparing team for their next steps in progression within the department or facility. 
  • Aid in preparation of the shipping plans that most effectively meet the needs of our customers. Meeting with the shipping receiving supervisor to review incoming and outgoing freight and charges for freight.
  • Coordinate receipt of material and supplies.  Maintain a safe and orderly workplace through proper storage of materials, supplies and finished goods.  Assure efficient space utilization. Value stream mapping for efficient flow of material in the warehouse and plant.  Establishing min/max levels for all raw, WIP and FG inventory.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with Company’s suppliers and customer base.
  • Responsible for inventory quarterly and weekly cycle count program, ensuring that inventory levels are accurately established (safety stock) and accurately tracked within the ERP system. Will be local expert on safety stock and inventory control planning.
  • Assist Strategic Purchasing Director with supplier retention, development, quality concerns, scoring and approvals.
  • Act as local liaison between Company’s Purchasing team, and local suppliers, helping to arrange meetings, negotiate terms and act as initial level of escalation for local associates in the facility.
  • Use experience/training to establish planning procedures that align with and help local facility meet/exceed established KPI/Goals.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistical Management or Related fields or a minimum of 10 years in supply chain/purchasing role is required.
  • Experience leading a team within supply chain is required.
  • Experience working with SCM/planning in MRP and/or ERP systems is required.
  • Preferred:  APICS certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM)
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Company’s language is English. A bi-lingual leader is required.
  • Present effectively before groups of employees.
  • Systems and approach to problem solving. Lean training and certifications preferred.
  • Must be an effective coach/leader.  Demonstrate examples of Leadership.
