THE POSITION
Summary
The Controller is a hands-on position that will supervise and conduct Finance, Accounting, Customs and International Trade, Human Resources, Compliance, EH&S and general administration with the support of a team of three associates (EH&S coordinator, Logistics Assistant, and an HR Supervisor).
Key Responsibilities
- Finance & Accounting: Oversee daily financial operations, including budgeting, cash flow management, accounts payable/receivable via corporate support, and financial reporting in compliance with Mexican GAAP (NIF) and IMMEX fiscal requirements. Prepare and file VAT (IVA) returns, IMMEX statistical reports (e.g., monthly inventories via Annex 24), and ensure timely audits to maintain permit status.
- International Trade: Coordinate customs brokerage, tariff classifications (HTS codes), and documentation for imports/exports under IMMEX and CBP rules, including temporary imports tracking, re-export deadlines (18 months), and compliance with USMCA/NAFTA successor provisions. Monitor trade sanctions, conduct due diligence on suppliers, and mitigate risks related to anti-dumping duties or origin rules.
- Human Resources: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, payroll processing with support from third party service, and employee relations for a multicultural workforce, adhering to Mexican Federal Labor Law (LFT), IMSS/INFONAVIT contributions, and IMMEX-specific labor certifications (e.g., no subcontracting rules post-2021 reforms). Handle visa/work permit coordination for expatriates under IMMEX guidelines.
- Compliance & General Administration: Lead internal audits for IMMEX adherence (e.g., production process certification, waste management), liaise with government authorities for permit renewals, and implement risk management strategies. Support executive team with strategic reporting and process optimizations.
THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or International Trade. Master’s preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role such as Controller, Administrative Manager or similar within a Maquiladora IMMEX manufacturing entity (export-oriented company) with proven IMMEX compliance expertise.
- Textile and medical device experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Accounting, Finance and US/MX Customs / International Trade.
- Basic knowledge of human resources, Mexican labor law is desired.
- Must be able to grow at least one level above.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance. (CPA -Contador Público). Certifications or Training: IMMEX, and some US and MX customs compliance training is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., EPICOR, SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Mexican tax software (e.g., SAT e.firma).
