THE COMPANY

Our client is a major global leader in the distribution of products and chemicals based in the USA.  They serve a variety of industries globally.  As a result of growth and expansion, they seek a Controller to be based in their Guadalajara, Mexico distribution center and office reporting to the Senior Corporate Controller based in the U.S. headquarters.

THE POSITION

Position Overview:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced hands-on Controller to join their small team in Mexico. The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance with both US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory tax reporting requirements in Mexico. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of both US and Mexican accounting standards and regulations, as well as the ability to analyze financial data and transactions.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement and other specialty reports) in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Manage the process of reporting financial statements in both Mexican Pesos and US Dollars, including foreign currency translation adjustments.
  2. Statutory Tax Reporting: Oversee the preparation and filing of all statutory tax reports in Mexico, ensuring compliance with local regulations and deadlines.
  3. Internal Controls: Develop and maintain effective internal control processes to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  4. Transactional Analysis: Analyze financial transactions and accounting issues, providing recommendations and solutions to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  5. Audit Management: Locally coordinate and facilitate external audits for the annual US GAAP financial statement audit, ensuring timely completion and resolution of any audit findings.
  6. Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  7. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to support business initiatives, providing financial expertise and insights as needed.
  8. Independence and Collaboration: Act as a self-starter, capable of working independently to meet deadlines and drive projects forward. Additionally, collaborate effectively with Corporate Headquarters in the United States, providing timely updates, insights, and support as required.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or an equivalent designation preferred.
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in accounting and finance roles, with a focus on financial reporting and
  • Financial analysis. Experience as Controller, Finance Manager or similar.
  • Experience with Mexico General Accounting including, G/L, A/P, A/R, Reconciliations, Fixed Asset Control, Pre-Payroll.
  • Thorough understanding of  US GAAP and familiarity with Mexican statutory tax reporting requirements.
  • Familiar with basic foreign currency translation adjustments.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and precision in work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Resourceful, self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required.
