Applications Engineer

Our client is a global manufacturer of electrical and mechanical drives, motion control and automation technology – offering products, drive solutions, complete automation systems and engineering services and tools from one single source. Founded over 75 years ago in Germany, they are able to support their customer throughout the entire machine development process – from the control system to the drive shaft and from the initial idea to after-sales. Their products can be found in many industries, including automotive, packaging, material handling and logistics, robotics, converting and printing, and commercial equipment. They have a global network of distributors and representatives which makes our client perfectly positioned to meet the motion control needs of customers worldwide. They have recently formally directly started a Mexico sales operation and are seeking to drive growth and expansion.

THE POSITION

Objective:

The Application Engineer provides technical expertise and support to customers by helping them understand, implement, and optimize product applications. This role involves customizing solutions, resolving technical issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction while collaborating with teams across the company to enhance product offerings. If the candidate hired is based out of Monterrey, Mexico, then this is a hybrid position where part of the work will be Monterrey office based and the rest remotely. If the candidate hired is based outside of Monterrey, then this position will be a REMOTE position with the understanding that there could be up to 30% travel.

Responsibilities:

Technical Support

• Provide technical assistance and support to customers regarding product applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Develop and customize product solutions based on customer requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of technical proposals and presentations.
• Develop customer PLC or HMI software.
• Product selection, sizing, and solution specification.

Product Demonstration and Training:

• Conduct product demonstrations and training sessions for internal and external customers.
• Assist in the preparation of technical proposals and presentations.
• Automation project support via phone, remote desktop and onsite.
• Internal and external Automation, Solution and Systems training.
• Provide sales support to field sales, this includes regional training as well as sales support calls.

Sales and Customer Relationship Management:

• Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling based on customer interactions.
• Contribute to achieving sales targets by aligning technical solutions with business goals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.

THE CANDIDATE

Background and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred (prefer mechatronics or mechanical engineering but will also consider electrical, electronics). Will also consider business, or related fields or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years’ experience as an Applications Engineer or similar supporting manufacturing and industrial clients.
• Motion control and motion drive technology, robotics experience or similar is required.  Automation project support experience.
• Experienced with product troubleshooting with clients.
• PLC and HMI software experience.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Collaborative and excellent communication skills
• Ability to travel up to 30%, as required
• Growth-oriented and self-motivated to do what it takes to get the job done right.
• Proficient in English (75%+) and fluent in Spanish.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to regularly sit at a desk for long periods of time and perform physical tasks including but not limited to lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, and reaching. Continuous mental and/or visual attention requires constant alertness to monitor warehouse processes and/or identify problems. The work environment will sometimes be in a cold warehouse setting and may be exposed to dust, fumes, dirt, noise, and water. It requires the ability to travel as needed, with occasional overnight travel. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a motor vehicle record check. Ability to meet the above description of position with or without reasonable accommodation.
