THE POSITION
Job Summary
The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing a robust supplier base in Mexico to support U.S. and Mexico manufacturing operations. This role focuses on cost modeling, supplier qualification, RFQ management, and new product introductions for metal components and some plastic components, ensuring competitive pricing, high quality, and on-time delivery. The position is fully REMOTE within Mexico, with a preference for candidates based in Monterrey, Ramos Arizpe, Querétaro, Silao, San Luis Potosí, or Tijuana, and requires regular travel to supplier locations throughout Mexico.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop detailed pre-costing analysis and cost models for each item.
- Find, assess, and develop suppliers (primarily in Mexico), as needed in support of our Mexico and U.S. manufacturing operations.
- Manage NDA for all new suppliers
- Manage RFQ process
- Manage quotes in various systems
- Manage new part introductions through suppliers and sub suppliers to meet product specs and expectations
- Maintain timelines and follow up with suppliers to keep projects on schedule
- Travel to a network of sub suppliers in Mexico to quickly develop components to meet aggressive timelines with high quality parts at the correct price
- Resolve QA issues with suppliers
- Other duties as assigned
THE CANDIDATE
Qualifications:
- Able to speak and write in both Spanish and English
- Bachelor degree is highly preferred (i.e., engineering, business supply chain, etc.)
- 5 Years experience sourcing steel and metal parts in Mexico
- Experience costing, sourcing, and new product introduction for some (ideally most) of the following types of items:
- Metal Stamping
- Steel and Aluminum Forging
- Die Cast
- Lost Wax Casting
- Metal Injection Molding
- Cut and Weld Metal Fabrication
- CNC Machining
- Heat Treatment
- Metal Finishes
- Anodization
- Electro-Plating
- Powder Coating
- PVD
- Laser Marking
- Hardware (standard and custom)
- Bolts
- Bearings
- Clip
- Molded plastic components
- Raw material pricing at the distributor level
- Knowledge of metal finishing costs
- Knowledge of the local labor rates
- Knowledge of the tax and tax rebate for exporting parts
- Knowledge of the steel, Mills, and steel distributors with a strong knowledge of commodity pricing for various grades of metal
- Knowledge of suppliers and sub-suppliers for the categories listed above
- Experience with ERP and Intermediate-Advanced Excel.
- Self-starter able to work REMOTE within Mexico.
