Our client is one of the largest independently owned beverage and food companies in the United States and is seeking a Maintenance Manager to join their growing team at their beverage bottling facility in Milton, NY.  The company has developed and invested in co-packing capabilities for many years. Their comprehensive range of contract bottling services has been specifically developed and tailored in response to the requirements of their partners. The company specializes in co-packing products such as sodas,100% juice, juice cocktails, teas, energy drinks, seltzers, sports drinks, flavored waters, and soft drinks.  With their high level of expertise and innovative approach, they always strive to present the best possible options to their partners. They have extensive experience working with many of the biggest names in the beverage industry, which has allowed them to develop smooth and efficient processes both for the mass market and for specialty and niche products. Position reports to Plant Manager. Position is based in upstate New York (Ulster County, Dutchess County, and Orange County).

THE POSITION

Job Summary:

As the new “hands on” Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for being on the floor with the maintenance team ensuring that the production lines are running at peak efficiency and that the any general maintenance and repairs are identified and repaired in a timely fashion.  The maintenance team consists of approximately 10 maintenance staff on a 2-shift rotation. The shift supervisors and team leads will be reporting to you.

Daily Responsibilities Include:
 

  • Assess any problems with the equipment, identify root cause, make the necessary repairs, and complete associated documentation.
  • Coordinate activities, as well as oversee the work of maintenance personnel.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining necessary procedures required to perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Identify critical spare parts needed (and then maintaining those inventories to minimize equipment down time and maximize production efficiencies).
  • Responsible for developing a maintenance operating budget and key participant in capex planning and execution.
  • Responsible for general building maintenance for production facility (120,000 sq/ft. approx.) + finished goods warehouse (100,000 sq/ft. approx.).
  • Perform all activities in compliance with company GMP and safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Adhere to applicable building, county, and safety codes/standards, while running an accident-free operation.
  • Effectively communicate with Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Notify management if specifications cannot be met and/or quality or safety is being compromised.
  • Review of document work completed by employees.
  • Knowledge of OSHA principles for safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is functional and that all employees practice proper safety and follow safety procedures.
  • Work on other projects as requested by management.

THE CANDIDATE

Experience and Qualifications:
 

  • Minimum 5 years direct experience as Maintenance Manager or similar in a manufacturing environment. May consider Senior Supervisory Maintenance role. Highly prefer a food and beverage background.
  • Solid experience in high-speed bottling required (i.e., beverages: juice, soft drinks, soda, seltzer, flavored waters, water, sports drinks, energy drinks, milk / dairy, or pharma / ingestible, chemicals, liquids etc.); in lieu of this experience may consider experience in high-speed production lines (i.e. food filling, packaging, pharma / pharma packaging, etc.)
  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to work closely with production managers and supervisors.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to keep track of and report on activity
  • Experience in planning maintenance operations
  • Familiar with budgets and CAPEX
  • Electrical engineering preferred; Mechanical engineering preferred. (not required).
  • Knowledge of Excel and Outlook
  • Bilingual Spanish/ English is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership and management skills. Able to hold others accountable.
  • Fast paced, results oriented and with a sense of urgency.
