THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the VP & General Manager – Fertilizer BU will serve as the autonomous business unit leader with complete strategic and financial accountability for leading the commercialization, P&L performance, and profitable growth of the organization’s nutrient platform, including its core organic ammonium nitrate offering. This executive provides overarching direction across product strategy, pricing, customer development, demand planning, supply chain coordination, and business performance while partnering closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, Project Development, and Finance teams to ensure commercial commitments align with production capabilities and support regional agricultural infrastructure deployments. It is a hands-on, entrepreneurial leadership role requiring a builder who is equally comfortable securing transformational customer partnerships, developing new markets, and establishing the organizational capabilities required to rapidly scale the business.
This position is a remote postion based anywhere in the USA. 

Main Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Business Leadership

  • Develop and execute the long-term commercial and business strategy for the fertilizer platform, aligning it with the company’s overall growth objectives.
  • Own absolute revenue growth, commercial performance, and profitability for the business unit, establishing annual operating plans, sales forecasts, and budgets.
  • Develop pricing, channel, customer segmentation, and market expansion strategies that maximize long-term enterprise value.

Market Development & Commercial Execution

  • Develop and implement go-to-market strategies across organic, specialty, and emerging crop nutrition markets.
  • Personally manage strategic customer relationships and negotiate long-term offtake agreements with distributors, wholesalers, agricultural retailers, cooperatives, and large agricultural producers.
  • Leverage an extensive industry network to build a high-performing commercial organization, including regional sales, business development, and commercial operations.

Infrastructure & Project Commercial Integration

  • Partner closely with internal agricultural project leaders to develop commercialization strategies that directly support regional facility deployments.
  • Secure commercial offtake agreements that strengthen project economics and improve long-term financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Business Operations & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to align commercial demand with production capacity, inventory strategy, logistics, and customer fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product Development to prioritize product enhancements and new formulations based on customer and market feedback.
  • Ensure all commercial activities strictly support regulatory compliance, quality standards, product stewardship, and customer expectations.

Performance Management & Culture

  • Establish robust commercial processes, CRM systems, opportunity qualification metrics, and forecasting tools to improve pipeline visibility and profitability.
  • Monitor sales performance, pipeline health, and customer retention, while implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus throughout the organization.

Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, they bring the leadership, business acumen, and hands-on approach required to build a market-leading fertilizer business while creating long-term value for customers and the company.

Experience

  • Industry Seniority: 15+ years of progressive leadership experience within fertilizer, crop nutrition, agricultural inputs, specialty chemicals, or related industries.
  • Commercial Leadership: Significant commercial leadership experience with responsibility for business growth, strategic customer development, and market expansion.
  • P&L Accountability: Demonstrated success leading a business unit, product line, or major commercial organization with direct responsibility for revenue and profitability.
  • Contract Negotiation: Proven success negotiating complex commercial agreements, including long-term supply, distribution, or offtake contracts.
  • Scale & Team Building: Experience building and leading high-performing commercial organizations during periods of rapid growth.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Market Command: Deep understanding of fertilizer markets, distribution channels, pricing strategies, supply chains, and customer economics.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong financial acumen with experience developing business plans, forecasts, and operating budgets.
  • Regulatory & Quality Frameworks: Working knowledge of fertilizer regulations, registrations, labeling requirements, and quality standards is preferred.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Agronomy, Engineering, or a related discipline; MBA preferred.
