THE COMPANY

Our client is a growing global leader in the manufacturing, sale and distribution of home consumer products for residential and commercial use who currently seeks a Plant Manager to lead its large manufacturing plant in Reynosa, Tamaulipas Mexico (across from McAllen, Texas) with over 2000 associates This position is open to Mexican nationals on Mexican payroll but also open to U.S. nationals on U.S. payroll.

THE POSITION

Job Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall performance of site operations. He/she has responsibility for setting the facility’s strategic direction, creating ATO fabrication and component plans, and developing/overseeing tactical support plans.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for the results and metrics obtained by the organization.
  • Establishes the objectives and strategies that will determine the company’s direction.
  • Formulates, negotiates, and manages the organization’s objectives and budgets, as well as the strategies and action plans to achieve those objectives. Validates and authorizes Standard Operating Procedures for the company.
  • Insures the optimal operation of the organization’s functional areas such as: production, quality, finance, materials, engineering, maintenance, human resources, EH&S, etc.
  • With a customer focused orientation, plans and directs the company’s operation to maintain volume and competitive position within the market.
  • Responsible for selecting, training, motivating, and developing their staff as well as acting as a facilitator. Also responsible for promoting and maintaining interdepartmental harmony.
  • Maintain the resources (people, equipment, and materials) to obtain the production volume as planned at the requested delivery time.
  • Comply with required production levels through appropriate material consumption.
  • Comply with objectives and goals as established with an approved budget.
  • Integrates “quality at the source thinking” and quality activities in daily, individual, team and project work. Defines and documents individual processes within sphere of control. Integrates process methodology into daily work; MPI, QAT, 5S, 6D, Q@S etc. Identifies gaps using tools such as Bald ridge criteria, WI Forward Award criteria, GPTW, IDP etc.
  • Ensures that others are trained as back-ups on (processes) within the area/department. Improves processes within sphere of control. Identifies waste and rework and enacts plan to improve/solve. Checks satisfaction of internal customers through use of quality tools and Customer/Supplier metrics.
  • Directly and indirectly manage approximately 2,000+ associates in plant operations. Associates use a teaming approach while striving for continuous improvement to provide the Best Experience to our customers and end consumers.
  • Create capacity plans and strategies that will best serve our order fulfillment expectations. Lead the site teams in executing those plans and strategies. Clearly define objectives, strategies, schedules, and assignments for all team members.
  • Report regularly to the VP of Mexico Operations. Assure clear lines of communication with others in the division to remove obstacles to success and facilitate changes that will assure success.
  • Prioritize project work for the Plant Teams.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement manufacturing productivity, quality of finished products and customer service pertaining to order turnaround time, cycle time and timely order status information to Division Customer Service.

Scope of Responsibility:

  • The Plant Manager will have primary responsibility for assuring continuous improvement in the operation, striving for cost improvement.
  • The Manager will have authority over an expense budget.
  • Oversee a facility with an inventory value and oversee fabrication of finished product having a shipping value.
  • Controls Operating Budget, including material cost.
  • Provide Weekly performance reports to VP of Operations, programs, and network manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with division staff the plans and implementation of new product program. Including facility design and layout.
  • Hiring/ Training of required and securing of all appropriate documentation/ Approvals for cross-border movements.

THE CANDIDATE

Candidate Experience, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • 5+ years in Manufacturing Leadership and Management. (i.e., Plant Manager, Director of Operations, Director of Manufacturing or similar). Experience managing a large plant and with custom or batch production is preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement expertise.
  • Experience with cultural and operational turnarounds, plant / production transfers, and plant ramp-ups is highly preferred.
  • Commitment to meeting production deadlines, shipping dates and managing time commitments effectively.
  • Understanding of financial reports and P&L and the ability to react accordingly to ensure cost expectations are met (including ability to prepare operational budget).
  • Through understanding of issues and challenges regarding staffing, unions, and plant safety; understand social implications and their impact on operations.
  • Familiar with government agencies’ inspection and compliance requirements.
  • Good verbal presentation ability in English (i.e., to corporate and executive leaders).
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, business administration or related field. MBA preferred.
  • MS Office and knowledge of ERP / MRP.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
