THE COMPANY

Our client provides expertise in designing, building, installing, and maintaining a comprehensive stored energy solution for industrial applications throughout the world. The company’s products and services are focused on three primary markets: Motive, Power, Energy Systems. They are amongst the largest industrial battery manufacturers in the world. As a result of aggressive growth in the Motive Power sector, they are currently seeking a Senior Quality Engineer for their Tijuana Manufacturing Site with three buildings.

THE POSITION

Job Summary:

The Sr Quality Engineer will lead the establishment and improvement of the quality management system, promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement throughout the plant. Supports and supervises the quality of the manufacturing processes. Ensure that the Quality KPI’s are met.

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Supervise a team of Quality supervisors, defining priorities and coaching on scrap reduction projects.
  2. Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and regulations.
  3. Hold daily meetings with the quality team to follow up on relevant activities and review status of such activities for their follow up and closure
  4. Develop component and product inspection acceptance and rejection criteria.
  5. Coordinate activities relating to CAPA’s/NCRs & SCARs using 8D methodology
  6. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of control plans for new processes and current processes.
  7. Conduct and/or coordinate internal audits of the quality system.
  8. Develop PPAP’s for new products/components.
  9. Participate in the MRB process.
  10. Responsible for daily waste/scrap monitoring and follow-up on waste projects with the quality supervisors’ team.
  11. Support internal external Quality audits, including customer audits.
  12. Coordinate the non-conforming material area. 
  13. Analyze customer complaints, field complaints, and coordinate corrective actions to prevent them from recurring
  14. Responsible for compiling and analyzing quality data, identifying trends and causes.
  15. Creates, reviews and sends reports required by corporate, regarding quality metrics.
  16. Generates and sends deviation request (MRR) for final disposition of materials and/or products that do not meet specifications.
  17. Responsible for root cause analysis, definition of action plans and monitoring of closure actions resulting from non-conformities from internal/external customers and non-conformities from internal and external audits.
  18. Responsible for the training, development, information, understanding and application of the quality assurance system of the personnel under his/her charge.
  19. Responsible for creating compliance certificates according to client requirements.
  20. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of control plans for new processes and current processes.

THE CANDIDATE

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (prefer industrial, mechanical or manufacturing), Quality management, or related field (highly preferred).
    • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
    • Minimum 5+ years’ experience as a Quality Engineer or quality systems or similar. Prefer some experience as a Senior Quality Engineer but not required.
    • Must have at least 2 years of Supervisory experience.
    • Prefer experience in highly regulated manufacturing industry like automotive, aerospace, medical devices, pharmaceutical, chemicals, or food.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001-2015 (internal auditor or lead auditor preferred)
  • Experience with PPAP and APQP, FMEA/PFMEA.
  • Experience with Control Plans, Root Cause Analysis, 8D’s(Problem Solving Tools like Ishikawa, etc.)
  • Experience with MSA & SPC (statistical control)
  • Knowledge of  IATF 16949 is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and managerial/supervisory skills. Proven decision-making abilities and prior experience supervising a team
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team player. Good listener; works well under pressure. Action oriented. Forward thinking visionary.
  • GEMBA. Likes to spend time on the manufacturing floor.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both in written and verbal English and Spanish.
  • English 80%. Able to make presentations in English. Spanish fluency.
  • MS Office and Minitab.
  • Able to travel occasionally.
