Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager

THE POSITION

Our client is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead all environmental, health, and safety initiatives for its manufacturing operation in Mexicali, Baja California.
Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, this highly visible leadership role requires a hands-on, yet strategic EHS leader who can transform the site’s safety culture while partnering closely with Operations and Plant Leadership to drive operational excellence. The successful candidate will lead, coach, and develop a team of up to 12 EHS professionals, while implementing best-in-class environmental, health, and safety programs aligned with business objectives.
The ideal leader will be passionate about building a proactive safety culture, driving accountability through KPIs, and leveraging Lean Manufacturing and Agile methodologies to continuously improve safety performance, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Environmental, Health & Safety strategy for the manufacturing facility.
• Manage, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing EHS team of up to 12 professionals.
• Build and sustain a world-class safety culture across all levels of the organization.
• Establish KPI-driven performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, municipal, and corporate environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and risk assessments.
• Develop and implement EHS programs, emergency response plans, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and continuous improvement reviews.
• Partner with the Director of Operations and cross-functional leadership to integrate EHS into daily manufacturing operations.
• Drive Lean Manufacturing, Agile methodologies, ergonomics, and operational excellence initiatives that reduce risk and improve overall plant performance.
• Build strong relationships with regulatory agencies and support external audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• Master’s degree is a plus.
• 5-10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience within a complex manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong knowledge of Mexican environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as international EHS standards.
• Proven experience implementing strategic EHS initiatives with measurable KPI improvements.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Agile methodologies.
• Expertise in incident investigations, root cause analysis, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Advanced bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
