THE POSITION
Job Summary:
The General Accountant supervises 4 direct reports including accounting specialists in fixed asset control, capital investments US/MX, Mexico tax, expenses control, and payroll. The General Accountant is responsible for managing the financial and regulatory aspects of a maquiladora operation. This role ensures compliance with Mexican and international accounting standards, tax laws, and government regulations related to maquiladora programs, such as IMMEX. The accountant will handle financial and tax reporting, payroll and Fixed Asset Control (both Mexico and US).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Accounting & Compliance
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Mexican GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and/or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Ensure compliance with IMMEX, VAT Certification, and PROSEC programs.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for both local and corporate requirements.
Taxation & Government Reporting
- Prepare and file tax returns, including VAT, income tax, and transfer pricing documentation, as required under Mexican tax laws.
- Manage compliance with government reporting requirements for maquiladora operations, such as Annex 24 and Annex 31.
- Internal Controls & Audits
- Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to support financial and compliance audits.
Payroll

THE CANDIDATE
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification is a plus.
- 3-5 years of general accounting experience in a maquiladora environment.
- US GAAP accounting
- Solid experience with monthly close.
- Experience handling internal audits and monitoring internal controls.
Skills & Knowledge

- Strong Mexico Fiscal Accounting and proficient with Mexican tax regulations, IMMEX compliance, and customs laws.
- Proficient with payroll.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Innova) and Microsoft Excel (Dynamic tables)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
